ABOUT MCP
MISSION STATEMENT
The Madison Chamber Players is a modular chamber ensemble that brings together musicians from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Mead Witter School of Music and the greater Madison area. We strive towards a community that is connected through music by curating thought-provoking and meaningful performance experiences for our performers and audience. We serve as a model for civic and community engagement through partnering with local small businesses and promoting the works of living and emerging composers. We create safe spaces for our audiences to engage in the joy of collaborative music making, and create pathways for conversation through our performances.
WHAT DO WE DO
In our rehearsals…
We create a rehearsal space that is collaborative and performer-driven.
We offer opportunities for university students and community members to perform in the same ensembles, creating high-level musical experiences that break down barriers between campus and the community.
In our performances…
We offer low-cost or free performances for our community. When donations or ticket fees are collected, they go towards supporting living composers through sheet music purchases and rentals, as well as local businesses through performance venue fees.
We provide meaningful opportunities for our community to interact with our musicians through verbal program notes delivered by members of the ensemble, Q&A sessions before or after performance when appropriate, open rehearsals, post-concert receptions, etc.
In our community…
We partner with local small businesses to support the organizations who support our Madison music community.
We serve as a model for repertoire selection for local music organizations by championing the music of living and emerging composers.
